TV REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars 5x04

Episode 4 of Pretty Little Liars has been aired, which means it's time for a review! You can see my reviews here of episode 1, 2 and 3 of this season. As usual, beware of the SPOILERS below!

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS 

THE GOOD

ALI'S DAD: Can we just talk about the fact that one of the parents on this show is actually being kind of reasonable about something? The Hasting's are acting insane, and Emily, Aria and Hanna's parents are all MIA. I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but has Ali's dad actually been acting like a proper dad this season?

LUCAS: I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Lucas, but I adored him in this episode. I don't trust him at all, but I thought it was nice to see that he felt bad for Alison even after all she did to him.

HANNA: I know I talked about Hanna last week too, but I just really, really love her at the moment. I like how she's been the only one there for Ali in the last couple of episodes. I also really love her identity crisis. I don't even know why, but I just love that she's trying to find herself. Admittedly, the shoplifting thing totally ruined it.

ANDREW:

THE BAD:

PAIGE: I don't hate Paige herself, but I massively hate that whole Pizza eating scene? Like what was the actual point of that?

MONA: I just don't understand you. Also, your outfit choices are really weird.

MR HASTINGS: I complain about you every week, but every single week you give me something new to complain about. What are you doing? and Why? Just why?

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I can feel my love for this season disappearing with every new episode. I have to admit, I didn't actually remember this episode had even aired until I saw a recap of it on Twitter. I'm feeling a little bit bored with it at the moment so I hope something exciting happens soon. That being said, I believe Caleb is returning next episode... <3

TV REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars 5x03

WOO, another episode of Pretty Little Liars has aired which means it time for my review! You can see my reviews here of episode 1 and 2 of this season. Again, beware of the SPOILERS below!

SPOILERS SPOILERS BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS

THE GOOD

THE DRESS: I know this is only a little thing, but I loved the fact Ali wore one of her mum’s dresses to her funeral because she wanted to feel close to her. I just thought that was such a nice touch.

HANNA: Next to Aria, Hanna has always been my favourite character. This episode though, I adored how Hanna was portrayed. I especially loved the flashbacks, because I think they gave her this new depth. I especially love how she’s decided to be herself again.

FRIENDSHIP: Okay, the next two points are connected. Firstly, I love the friendship between the four girls. It wasn’t as present in the first two episodes because everything’s been about Ali, but I loved seeing Hanna protect Aria against Mona, Emily and Hanna’s talk in the car and Spencer and Aria’s talk at her house. I think it’s really showing positive friendships, which is very important.

DIVISION: I also like (still) that the girls are still that little bit distant from Ali. I especially like the uncomfortable feeling between Ali and Aria. I don’t know why, but I do.

EZRA: I do love Ezra in general, but I think my favourite thing about his part in this episode was the fact he actual looked like he was recovering from being shot. Remember that one time Hanna got hit by a car and still looked perfect? Not with Ezra! He needs a walking cane and actually looks like he’s in pain (that rhyme was not intentional).

THE ‘MEH’

ALI: I had to add this new section just for these two because I couldn’t put them in the good or the bad. There’s something off about Ali, I don’t know. I love how Sasha plays her, but I really, really don’t trust her with anything.

JASON: He was cleared awfully quickly wasn’t he? Usually it takes like an entire season for the girls to decide someone isn’t in the wrong, so this is new. I’m sure he’ll be back and will be all suspicious again.

THE BAD

THE HASTINGS: Why do the writers of this show have this obsession with adults being all suspicious? I just don’t understand why Spencer’s father would want to hurt Ali, while she might have been a super bitch at the end of the day, she’s just a teenager. Plus, what’s this secret between Melissa and her dad?

NEW GIRL: What is happening here? I suspect she’s going to have something to do with Emily or Paige, but was I the only one slightly creeped out by this new girl? I don’t know, she just seems weird to me.

THE ENDING: So I love the fact that Hanna’s changing and has decided she needs to be her real self again- that’s amazing. But I don’t get that whole frosted glass scene thing. What does that have to do with anything?

FINAL THOUGHTS

I’ve kind of been disappointed with every final few minutes of the episodes so far. I’m not quite used to the endings not being all creepy but exciting and whatnot. I do really, really love seeing all four girls develop even more but I don’t know how I feel about Ali yet. I have to say, the promo trailer for next episode does look very exciting!

TV REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars 5x02

Welcome back! I hope you've all had a magnificent week. Let's talk some Pretty Little Liars. Firstly, if you haven't already, go check out my review for episode 1 here. Secondly, remember- they are spoilers below so read on at your own risk!

THE GOOD

ARIA: I mentioned this last time too, but damn- Aria is amazing right now. It’s interesting to see how she’s reacted to killing Shana, and I think that’s been written/acted really well in this episode. You can see how freaked out she is and she has one line that says something along the lines ‘I don’t how I’m going to be able to live with that’. I just thought that was incredibly realistic. 

ALI: I really love that Ali hasn’t slipped back into the bitch that she used to be yet. It’s nice to see the weaker side of her. That being said, how she acted at the end of the episode struck me as odd, but I talk about that further down.

THE BAD

 

MIKE/MONA: No. Just no. I like Mike, and I don’t hate Mona either (I get her bitchy attitude) but I really don’t like these two together. It’s really weird to me.

JASON: What even is this? The writers of this show really can’t decide whether Jason is good or not, or anyone else for that matter. I get why they do this, but this whole Jason being in New York and that ‘friend’ he had to deliver things to…it makes no sense to me.

THE ENDING: I liked how Ali’s mum’s body was discovered, it was different to all the others but it was kinda weird. I liked all the police taking pictures and questioning people and whatnot (finally, the police are actually allowed to do something right!) but Ali standing there all mysteriously with her hood up and staring blankly was odd. Are we supposed to believe that maybe Ali had something to do with this?

FINAL THOUGHTS

So this definitely wasn’t my favourite episode. I feel like the season is off to a really slow start? But it’s also got me wondering whether I’m just being more critical than usual. TV REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars 5x01

We’ve decided to broaden our horizons a little here, and so we’ve decided to do some reviewing of TV shows. One of my guilty pleasures is Pretty Little Liars, and since season five has just started up, I thought it was a great one to start with. 

BEWARE – SPOILERS BELOW.

 Yes, I have been waiting a very long time to use my collection of River Song spoiler GIFs.

THE GOOD

ARIA: I’ve always loved Aria- she’s my absolute favourite character out of the entire show, in fact Lucy Hale was the reason I started the shown in the first place. I think she’s usually quite the strong character so it’s been good to see her be a little less in control. 

THE DIVISION BETWEEN THE GIRLS: Is it horrible for me to say that I like that the girls didn’t instantly fall back into BFF territory? There’s this awkwardness between them that you experience when you meet up with someone you used to be friends with after a long time. I really like how this was done.

THE PEOPLE IN BLACK HOODIE AND MASKS ROUNDUP: I didn’t know what else to call this bit, but I’m sure you know what I’m referring to. I thought that was amazing, seriously guys- A’s pretty damn resourceful if they can get that many people to dress up and be creepy. 

THE BAD

MONA: Are you good or are you bad? I don’t really care, just make up your mind! Though I admit, I do love your dramatics.

POLICE: Can we just talk about how this show portrays police? They’re either manipulative or really, really stupid. Surely the forensics are good enough to find out who the girl is Alison’s grave is…

THE HASTINGS: This family is seriously screwed up. So Melissa’s back and is being all mysterious which is fine, but why is Mr Hastings so weird? Plus that scene in the kitchen with the alcohol is weird, and really unnecessary. 

EZRA/ALISON: Words cannot describe how much I hate these flashback scenes. I loved Ezra/Aria, so I just can’t deal with these two. Besides, there’s something really uncomfortable about these scenes.

SHANA: What was that? Really? I know we’ve had our little ‘Shana is suspicious’ moments, but that still felt a bit out of the blue to me. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

I don’t know if I liked this episode or not. It kind of felt like a final episode of a series than a season opener. I’ve gotten so used to cliffhangers with this show that I didn’t expect for it to not end on one. Obviously, this whole A thing isn’t over but I’m interested to see where the show is going to go from here…
