THE FIFTH WAVE PLAYLIST // by Rick Yancey

So, If you have been hiding under a rock you might not know that “The Fifth Wave”, by Rick Yancy is becoming an official book to movie franchise!
The official soundtrack for the movie has not been set in stone so really you can’t blame me for trying to predict (or at least hope) the songs that I believe fit perfectly with the book series. I hope you agree with my choices and of course, if you have any ideas for this fan soundtrack, leave them down in the comments below!

Dreaming by Smallpools
-      Come on. If you don’t feel the post apocalyptic escape sensation that is this song, then there is something wrong with you. This song should be the theme to whole series because it totally gives off the feeling that the world is ending and everyone needs to escape. Every single lyric in the song is “The Fifth Wave.”

Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
-      I know that The Host has already stole this one but seriously, The Fifth Wave is all about “welcome to the new world”

Vagabond by Misterwives
-      Represents Cassie to me. She’s so alone in the world even though she is “pretending to not feel alone” with all the memories she carries.

Hurricane by Ms Mr
-      Also represents Cassie’s state of mind. She has to kill people without blinking as the world has gotten to the point in which that is necessary. I really can’t say anything more without spoiling the series so I am going to have to leave it at that.

The Last Day On Earth – Kate Miller Heidke
-      Remember in the first book how Cassie was all like, “Oh my god I must be the last person in the world”? Well, this kind of brings back those feelings of the loneliness she felt.

Run by Daughter

-      Run, Cassie, Run. They are on to you.

If you have any other suggestions, leave them down below!

WRAP UP: November 2014

In November I managed to read six books. Usually, I’d be pretty disappointed with myself but I’ve had a really tough month and most of the time I just wasn’t feeling up to reading (or anything else for that matter). Anyway, these are the six books I read.

I wrote reviews for three of them, which I'm pretty proud of! Click here to see my reviews of  Not That Kind of Girl, Saving Francesca and The Infinite Sea.

This month was obviously NaNoWriMo which I participated in. I’m going to do a whole separate post on my novel and my experiences this month, but I’ll give you a little spoiler now…I WON! You’ll have to wait for that post to hear anything else.

Finally, some other things that happened in November. I went on a little impromptu road trip with one of my best friends that was A LOT of fun (and involved far too much cookie dough), and I met up with the lovely Ebony for dinner and *drum roll* an Amie Kaufman/Jay Kristoff signing. The signing was great and Amie is really lovely but…Ebony and I met ELLIE MARNEY. I cannot even begin to describe how excited Ebony and I were when we saw her there, we got our books signed (yes, we took them with us) and everything!

Anyway, that was November! Thank you all for reading. I hope you had great Novembers :)

REVIEW: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Title: The Infinite Sea (The Fifth Wave #2)
Author: Rick Yancey

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopia.
Publication Date: September 16th 2014
Publisher: Penguin Teen
Format: Paperback

Pages: 300

Rating: 3.5/5

The hugely anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestselling The 5th Wave, hailed by Justin Cronin as “wildly entertaining.”

For Cassie Sullivan and the rest of Earth’s remaining human survivors, the situation was already desperate when the 5th Wave hit. It’s about to get worse.

No one yet knows the depths to which Earth’s conquerors—the Others—will sink in order to rid the Earth of the human infestation, nor have they guessed the heights to which the human spirit can reach. Characters introduced in Book One will come to the fore—and others will face the ultimate test.

Readers will watch in awe as the Others give their answer to Cassie’s defiance.

I really don’t know where to start with this review. I absolutely adored The 5th Wave so this was one of my most anticipated releases for this year. When it came out, there were some very mixed reviews from people I trust – some said they loved it, others were seriously disappointed, so I was a bit hesitant to pick this up. Eventually, I just decided that I’d give it a go.

I don’t really know how I feel about the book as a whole. There were parts I really enjoyed – I still love Cassie, but there were others parts that I was just ‘meh’ about. To be honest, I couldn’t have cared less about any of the other character’s perspective – I just wanted to hear Cassie’s side. Don’t get me wrong, I really like some of the other characters but I was used to Cassie’s voice. Also, I get very confused by all the nickname/codename things, I kept confusing characters with one another.

I think I liked the pacing of this book better than the first one. I was very disappointed when I saw how thin this one was, but a lot more happened in a much shorter time which was great. I feel like some of the deeper stuff in this book went right over my head – there were parts that I just didn’t understand or didn’t realise the connection to the rest of the story. I think it’s going to be one of those series that I’ll have to reread after the final book is out so that I can connect all the dots.

I got through it very quickly though, and I did enjoy it (mostly) which is the main thing. I’m still sort of on the fence about this one, I still love the first book, but I don’t know how I feel about the series as a whole yet.

MOST ANTICIPATED READS: September 2014

Welcome to Most Anticipated Reads! At the start of every month (I'm sorry this month is late!), we'll be showing three of our most anticipated reads for that particular month. Pretty straight forward, right? Without further ado, our most anticipated reads for September 2014.

The Infinite Sea (The Fifth Wave #2) by Rick Yancey
Out September 16th | Goodreads

How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer
Out September 30th | Goodreads

If life were fair, Jam Gallahue would still be  at home in New Jersey with her sweet British  boyfriend, Reeve Maxfield. She’d be watching  old comedy sketches with him. She’d be kissing  him in the library stacks.

She certainly wouldn’t be at The Wooden Barn, a therapeutic boarding school in rural Vermont, living with a weird roommate, and signed up for an exclusive, mysterious class called Special Topics in English.

But life isn’t fair, and Reeve Maxfield is dead.

Until a journal-writing assignment leads Jam to Belzhar, where the untainted past is restored, and Jam can feel Reeve’s arms around her once again. But there are hidden truths on Jam’s path to reclaim her loss.

From New York Times bestselling author Meg Wolitzer comes a breathtaking and surprising story about first love, deep sorrow, and the power of acceptance.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Out September 16th | Goodreads
A brilliant, luminous story of first love, family, loss, and betrayal for fans of John Green, David Levithan, and Rainbow Rowell

Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

This radiant novel from the acclaimed, award-winning author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once.
