INSURGENT TRAILER REVIEW

So Insurgent is one of those books that I don’t actually remember much of.

It was kind of a blur in the Divergent series and I just remember a bunch of things happening that did not make any sense.

Gathered from all the other reviews and reactions that I have watched, I feel like a lot of people are in the boat of having to reread that particular book again.

Am I looking forward to this movie? I don’t really mind.

So now you know my neutral feels about this book to movie adaptation, lets continue onto the review!

First of all, if you look at the trailer as not attached to the book, it looks awesome. So basically remove its whole connection to the book and view it as an awesome jam packed action movie with awesome twists and wicked fighting scenes. My sister absolutely hates book to movie adaptations that are young adult and I got her to say that the trailer was pretty awesome in her opinion. To me, it looks like a film that I would watch even if there weren’t a book or so attached to it. It is cut perfectly and the music fits it just as well.

Now, look at it as if it is attached to a book. A book we know as Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

Is this the same book? I mean I don’t remember a lot of the book but I don’t really remember most of what was in that trailer happening in the book.

AKA: The box.

What?

What even.

I am so confused right now.

The main plot however is there. I can see that.

One of the things I’m really hoping that they don’t leave out is the emotional journey that Tris goes on after shooting one of her friends in the previous book/movie. She deals with suicide and her own emotions and it is so interesting to read about when it is mostly rare to see things like that in dystopian books these days. She suffers the consequence.  I want to see Tris suffer in the movie. That kind of sounds psycho, right? Haha!

Honestly, I am always fine with movies adding in things. They have to make the movie suitable for different audiences and demographics. There is no tea break (Although i wish there was). There is no, “I’ll read this thirty minutes every night”. There is a two hour frame to make at least the basic plot of a book into something that is worth watching for not only the people that read the books. Truthfully, the added action sequences in the trailer look awesome and it’s always good to be surprised once in a while. You can never translate a book to a movie perfectly without something at least being changed or altered. So now that I think about it, I am excited for this movie to come out! I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I think I should’ve. I think it’s time to give the movie a try.

GenreMatch: #DYSTOPIAN TV SHOWS

Title: The 100
State:  Currently Running - Season 1.
Plot: Ninety-seven years ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth, destroying civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000, and resources are running out on their dying "Ark" - the 12 stations now linked together and repurposed to keep the survivors alive. Draconian measures including capital punishment and population control are the order of the day, as the leaders of the Ark take ruthless steps to ensure their future, including secretly exiling a group of 100 juvenile prisoners to the Earth's surface to test whether it's habitable. For the first time in nearly a century, humans have returned to planet Earth. Among the 100 exiles are Clarke, the bright teenage daughter of the Ark's chief medical officer; Wells, son of the Ark’s Chancellor; the daredevil Finn; and the brother/sister duo Bellamy and Octavia, whose illegal sibling status has always led them to flaunt the rules. Technologically blind to what’s happening on the planet below them, the Ark’s leaders - Clarke’s widowed mother, Abby; the Chancellor, Jaha; and his shadowy second in command, Kane - are faced with difficult decisions about life, death and the continued existence of the human race. For the 100 young people on Earth, however, the alien planet they’ve never known is a mysterious realm that can be magical one moment and lethal the next. With the survival of the human race entirely in their hands, THE 100 must find a way to transcend their differences, unite and forge a new path on a wildly changed Earth that’s primitive, intense and teeming with the unknown.

The series stars Eliza Taylor (newcomer) as Clarke, Paige Turco (“Person of Interest,” “Damages”) as Abby, Thomas McDonell (“Suburgatory”) as Finn, Eli Goree (“Emily Owens, M.D.”) as Wells, Marie Avgeropoulos (“50/50“) as Octavia, Bob Morley (newcomer) as Bellamy, Kelly Hu (“X2: X-Men United,” “Arrow”) as Cece, Christopher Larkin (“Squad 85”) as Monty, Devon Bostick (“Aim High”) as Jasper, with Isaiah Washington (upcoming “Blue Caprice,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) as Chancellor Jaha, and Henry Ian Cusick (“Lost,” “Scandal”) as Kane.
Based on the upcoming book series by Kass Morgan, THE 100 is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Matthew Miller (“Human Target,” “Chuck”), Jason Rothenberg (upcoming “Twilight Zone” feature), Bharat Nalluri (“Torchwood,” “Emily Owens, M.D.”), Leslie Morgenstein (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Gina Girolamo (“The Secret Circle”). The pilot was directed by Bharat Nalluri.

Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars CATASTROPHE

I’ve been sitting here for a couple of days feuding with the thought that Hazel Grace, Augustus Waters, Beatrice prior and Caleb Prior are all played by the same actors. And you’re thinking, “What! What are you talking about Chami? Your nuts!” Well aside from the Vampire Academy casting news frenzy, the break up of my favourite celebrity couple (Ian and Nina), the casting for Divergent and Fault In Our Stars is underway as well. And if you hadn’t heard, Shaileene Woodly will be playing Tris Prior from Divergent and Hazel Grace from The Fault in our stars. And when that was announced, I went berserk thinking why they would cast the same actress for two Young Adult massive series as the main character for both. And adding to that, I’m not a massive Shaileene Woodly Acting fan, but I do respect her morals and her choices she has clearly fixed onto her self. I got over that little mistake, and just as I’ve settled down they’ve decided to announce another catastrophe. Ansel Elgort, who is playing Caleb Prior (Tris’ bro) will be playing Augustus Waters. Two Main Characters. DO YOU HEAR THAT FANS? THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. I disagree with this. Immensely. I’m sure the Directors of both movies know what they are doing, but do they realise what they are doing to the fans? It’s like making Daniel Radcliffe play Percy Jackson as well as Harry Potter. I’m
just thankful that “The Fault in Our Stars” is
not an ongoing series because that would cause some mass confusion. Like, “Hey, when did Hazel start jumping out of Trains?” and “Gus, where did you get that gun from?” Tough tough times, I tell ya. If I had to choose, I would settle on Shaileene playing Hazel and Ansel playing Caleb. I don’t know much about Ansel, and I don’t like Shaileene as an actress. We’ll just have to wait for the trailer because I seriously wasn’t impressed by the Divergent stills. She had no emotion on her face and looked nothing like Tris. (Quite frankly, Tris looks like a younger version of Veronica Roth to me…haha)Cross your fingers fans. Lets just hope this works.

TOP 3 DYSTOPIAN MUST HAVES

1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (GoodReads)

If your thinking, "Really? This is your first pick out of all those other popular Dystopians?" Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Because this one deserves just as much hype and earns the title of my favourite book. Yes. The Honour goes to the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. The best characters, an amazing plot line, beautiful writing and a potential for so much MORE! If your looking for a fast paced, poetically written story about a girl that can destroy someone with her touch, and a boy so menacing but intriguing that it becomes despicable to fall in love with him. Then this is your man!

Blurb:
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth (GoodReads)

I don't know where you have been if you haven't heard anything about this book. With an upcoming movie and all, it has gained a lot of hype. Oh Divergent. How I truly do love you. And though Divergent has fallen second in that reserved place in my heart, it is something you have to read to be up to date with Dystopian Genre. Though the second book in the series is quite heavy, it is a read as well. It has such a strong amazing main character and will do well. So get on it!

Blurb:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

3.  Legend by Mari Lu (GoodReads)

Though i haven't read this one, it's gone shooting into everyones book radar for awhile. I have the book gingerly sitting on my self, waiting to be called upon for its unravelling. Though i haven't read it, i feel like it's going to be a must have!

Blurb:
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills
