Title: REVOLUTION
State: Currently Running/ Season 2
Plot: The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic future. All electricity on Earth has been disabled within a single night, ranging from computers and electronics to car and jet engines. Trains and cars stopped where they were, ships went dead in the water, and fly-by-wire aircraft fell from the sky and crashed.

People were forced to adapt to a world without electricity over the next fifteen years. Due to the collapse of government and public order, many areas are now ruled by warlords and militias.
It starts with the surviving Matheson family: Ben, Charlie, and Danny, now living near what used to be Chicago, who possesses a pendant-shaped device (a USB flash drive contained in a pendant) that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago, but also a possible way to reverse its effects. However, Sebastian Monroe, the General of the Monroe Militia and self-appointed President of the Monroe Republic, an area of the former United States east of the Mississippi River northward of Kentucky and the Carolinas, now possesses that power for himself, seeking conquest of the entire former United States of America. The remaining Matheson family, joined initially by Miles Matheson, Aaron Pittman, and Nora Clayton now strive to counter the Monroe Militia. Monroe's new benefactor, Randall Flynn, a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense who 15 years earlier ordered the deployment of the weaponized technology that caused the blackout, now seeks to fortify Monroe in his efforts after Ben's wife Rachel (working under duress for Monroe) escapes from his custody.

Title: The 100
State:  Currently Running - Season 1.
Plot: Ninety-seven years ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth, destroying civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000, and resources are running out on their dying "Ark" - the 12 stations now linked together and repurposed to keep the survivors alive. Draconian measures including capital punishment and population control are the order of the day, as the leaders of the Ark take ruthless steps to ensure their future, including secretly exiling a group of 100 juvenile prisoners to the Earth's surface to test whether it's habitable. For the first time in nearly a century, humans have returned to planet Earth. Among the 100 exiles are Clarke, the bright teenage daughter of the Ark's chief medical officer; Wells, son of the Ark’s Chancellor; the daredevil Finn; and the brother/sister duo Bellamy and Octavia, whose illegal sibling status has always led them to flaunt the rules. Technologically blind to what’s happening on the planet below them, the Ark’s leaders - Clarke’s widowed mother, Abby; the Chancellor, Jaha; and his shadowy second in command, Kane - are faced with difficult decisions about life, death and the continued existence of the human race. For the 100 young people on Earth, however, the alien planet they’ve never known is a mysterious realm that can be magical one moment and lethal the next. With the survival of the human race entirely in their hands, THE 100 must find a way to transcend their differences, unite and forge a new path on a wildly changed Earth that’s primitive, intense and teeming with the unknown.

The series stars Eliza Taylor (newcomer) as Clarke, Paige Turco (“Person of Interest,” “Damages”) as Abby, Thomas McDonell (“Suburgatory”) as Finn, Eli Goree (“Emily Owens, M.D.”) as Wells, Marie Avgeropoulos (“50/50“) as Octavia, Bob Morley (newcomer) as Bellamy, Kelly Hu (“X2: X-Men United,” “Arrow”) as Cece, Christopher Larkin (“Squad 85”) as Monty, Devon Bostick (“Aim High”) as Jasper, with Isaiah Washington (upcoming “Blue Caprice,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) as Chancellor Jaha, and Henry Ian Cusick (“Lost,” “Scandal”) as Kane.
Based on the upcoming book series by Kass Morgan, THE 100 is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Matthew Miller (“Human Target,” “Chuck”), Jason Rothenberg (upcoming “Twilight Zone” feature), Bharat Nalluri (“Torchwood,” “Emily Owens, M.D.”), Leslie Morgenstein (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Gina Girolamo (“The Secret Circle”). The pilot was directed by Bharat Nalluri.

REVIEW: Mystic City by Theo Lawrence

Title: Mystic City (Mystic City #1)
Author: Theo Lawrence
Publication Date: October 11th 2012
Publisher: Corgi
Format: Paperback
Pages: 397
Rating: 4.5/5
Blurb: For fans of Matched, The Hunger Games, X-Men, and Blade Runner comes a tale of a magical city divided, a political rebellion ignited, and a love that was meant to last forever. Book One of the Mystic City Novels.
Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City's two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents' sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud—and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths. But Aria doesn't remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can't conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place. Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection—and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city—including herself.

REVIEW:

I read Ely’s review of Mystic City by Theo Lawrence before I wrote mine, because I pretty much am sure that we have the same things to say about this book, and when I read it, it just confirmed it.

I’m not going to lie. This is going to involve spoilers so if you would like to read a review without any spoilers click here to read Ely’s.

Alright! Down to business.

Theo Lawrence, you do know how to construct a plot. I agree on most parts being predictable, but as Ely said, there were many things that weren’t predictable as well. Like Patrick Bennedict. I was so taken a back by that one. And with the other ones, you begin to suspect people a page before or so. Like Elissa. When she kicked that can, I was like, “Yup. She’s an enemy. Nobody kicks cans like that.” But aside from those things, Lawrence introduced answers at the perfect time, and I applaud him for that. I hope Theo hears them!

And another thing I agree with Ely, is the world building. It was really quite interesting on how this world was formed. The use of gondolas, and the Mystic lights. It was different from all the other Dystopians books I read. It seemed to dwell more into the details of the world, not just the overlay.

Aria was a nice character to read. You didn’t have to yell at her to believe, she sought all the evidence and agreed on it herself. Good on you Heroine! Nice one!

I think my favourite part would have to be when Hunter and Aria were escaping from Aria’s house once they were caught, and they just slipped through the walls. I was so excited.

Davida being promised to Hunter! Being him! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? THAT WAS SO CRUEL. BUT AWESOME.

I don’t know if it was just me, but I preferred that the first meeting of Hunter and Aria after Aria had her memories erased. The actual first one made Aria sound really stuck up and more like her mother than ever, and quite rude. And that just didn’t feel like Aria to me. Even if she was rude I was used to her apologizing because of it. Hunter there’s another story. He just dropped down and fell for her and I was like, “NO. NO. NO, GIVE HER SOMETHING TO RUN FOR.” But no. That didn’t happen. I preferred when he was sneaking up on Aria and when he saved her from those wicked poor people. Aside from that, those love letters were really cheesy, if I say so myself. I think I can say that I like the present Aria, not the past Aria…if that kind of makes sense?

Overall, this is on the good end of the book meter. Not at the top, because Shatter Me sits their growling. But the sequels may challenge Divergent! Who sits in second place!

TOP 3 DYSTOPIAN MUST HAVES

1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (GoodReads)

If your thinking, "Really? This is your first pick out of all those other popular Dystopians?" Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Because this one deserves just as much hype and earns the title of my favourite book. Yes. The Honour goes to the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. The best characters, an amazing plot line, beautiful writing and a potential for so much MORE! If your looking for a fast paced, poetically written story about a girl that can destroy someone with her touch, and a boy so menacing but intriguing that it becomes despicable to fall in love with him. Then this is your man!

Blurb:
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth (GoodReads)

I don't know where you have been if you haven't heard anything about this book. With an upcoming movie and all, it has gained a lot of hype. Oh Divergent. How I truly do love you. And though Divergent has fallen second in that reserved place in my heart, it is something you have to read to be up to date with Dystopian Genre. Though the second book in the series is quite heavy, it is a read as well. It has such a strong amazing main character and will do well. So get on it!

Blurb:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

3.  Legend by Mari Lu (GoodReads)

Though i haven't read this one, it's gone shooting into everyones book radar for awhile. I have the book gingerly sitting on my self, waiting to be called upon for its unravelling. Though i haven't read it, i feel like it's going to be a must have!
