Ely's Recommendations #3

IT'S RECOMMENDATION TIME! You can see my other recommendation posts here: #1 and #2. The five books I have for you today are all ones I've recently read (which is how I plan to do the rest of these posts).  So, let's get it started in here!

1. The Violet Eden Chapters by Jessica Shirvington
I've kind of been freaking out about this series a lot recently. I marathoned the whole series last month before I actually met Jessica Shirvington (which was amazing). This series is very fun and unique and the characters are amazing. I wrote a proper series review so you can read that here. (P.S. This series is also called The Embrace series in the UK)

2. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
This one is quite popular, but I feel the need to mention it anyway. THIS IS SO GOOD! I don't actually remember every being scared because of a book until this one. I don't even know why, there's just this aspect to the book that makes it seem so very real and possible- it's terrifying. You need to read this, it's just that simple. Also, special thanks to Kelly for Diva Booknerd for supporting me after this book was finished, I could not have survived without you!

3. The Great Gatsby: Graphic Novel by Nicki Greenberg
This one's very different from any of the others. As you can tell from the title, it's a graphic novel...but it's not just any graphic novel it's a graphic novel adaptation of The Great Gatsby. (How many times do I need to say graphic novel?) It's so amazing, and unique and the characters are all this little funny creatures and the art is amazing (and originally hand-drawn by Nicki). I'm working on a very special post dedicated to this so look out for that.

4. Searching for Sky by Jillan Cantor
I'm being a bit mean here as this one isn't out until July, but I just HAD to mention it. This is really amazing, it's being described as a sort of 'reserve-dystopian' but personally, I believe it's more of a survival story with a twist. I can't tell you much more, but my review will be out late June!

5. Tomorrow, When The War Began by John Marsden
As many of my fellow Aussies will tell you, this is a YA classic down here. It's the first book in seven book series about a bunch of teenagers fighting for survival after Australia is invaded. It's action-packed, and just wonderful. I studied this in school a while back so this is a re-read for me, but if you're an Aussie who hasn't read this you need to get on it, and if you're from anywhere else...you need to read this just as much!

These recommendations posts are quickly becoming a 'see how many Australian authors I can fit in' (3 today) kind of post, and I love that. If you've read any of these books, please let me know so we can gush about them in the comments, and if you haven't, please consider giving them a go. I'll see you all next time with some more recommendations, until then...

  1. Three cheers for book recommendations! Speaking of which, I've been meaning to make a similar post for quite a while. I am so happy to see some love for the Violet Eden Chapters! I've been contemplating on whether or not to start this series for quite a while now, and this is just the push I need! You're so lucky you got to meet, Jessica! I was all ready to go to the Disruption book event at Dymocks in the city earlier this year, but unfortunately wasn't able to make it due to a change in plans at the last minute.

I LOVED The 5th Wave! I can't wait for The Infinite Sea! I'm also glad to see some love for this in the blogosphere. :)

Ooh....I'm intrigued! I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for your review of Searching for Sky later this month! I think I have heard of this book before, but I'm not sure...I'm picturing the cover in my head, but I can't quite seem to remember the name...anyway, enough blabbing from me.

THE TOMORROW SERIES. Oh. My. God. I read this probably from the ages of about 10-13 and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I think a re-read is well overdue.

Thanks for sharing, Ely. :) x

    1. Oooh, I'll look out for your post! The Violet Eden Chapters are amazing and Jessica is so lovely. Oh noes, we could have met at the Disruption event!

I'm going to die by the time The Infinite Sea comes out...I NEED IT RIGHT NOW!

It's a very contemporary-ish cover considering the actual book, but it's good. I hope you enjoy my review once it's up :)

It's a classic, isn't it? I need to get onto the second books as soon as I possibly can!

      Thanks for commenting, Ebony :D

  2. The 5th Wave <3. That book is just fantastic, I really never expected to like it as much as I did but ended up falling head over hills in love.
Lots of people know about it but haven't read it yet and it's one that I try and push on people as much as possible :P.

Haven't read any of the others but I just wanted to say that your love for that book, is not alone. :)

    1. It's really amazing, isn't it? I'm forcing a couple of friends to read it actually, so I hope they like it as much as I did!

    2. It is. I read this one post by a lady stating she DNF because Cassie focused too much on her virginity. Now I don't know if I just missed that part but I'm pretty sure there was so much more to the story than that haha.

Its hard waiting to hear if a friend likes a book you've somewhat pushed on for a long time haha. Hope they like it too

    3. Okay, so I don't remember that being a big thing either? Some people are really nitpicky about weird things...

    4. I'm glad it isn't just me, because I really did think I'd missed something haha.

Yeah they are, but ah well.
